At Ella Gagiano Studios, we believe family photography can be more than simply documenting what your family looks like today. It can be artistic, sophisticated, beautifully styled and completely personal to you.
Every session begins long before Ella picks up her camera. We get to know your family, help plan your wardrobe and location, and design a session around the people you love and the way you want to be photographed.
During your session, Ella brings together beautiful light, intentional posing and genuine connection to create portraits that feel polished without losing the personalities that make your family your own. You don’t need to know how to pose, have perfectly behaved children, or arrive knowing exactly what you want. That’s our job.
And the experience doesn’t end when the photographs are taken. You’ll see your images for the first time during your cinematic reveal and design consultation, where we’ll help you turn your favorites into artwork created for your home and your family.
These aren’t photographs meant to live and disappear on a phone. They’re portraits created to become part of your home, and eventually, part of your family’s history.

How much does family photography cost in Kentucky?
We completely understand wanting to know what to expect when it comes to cost. Because what we create goes beyond simply showing up, taking photographs and delivering a gallery, we prioritize talking with our families first.
Our goal is to get to know you, understand what matters to your family, what you hope to create, and how you ultimately want to enjoy your photographs. We offer everything from beautifully finished albums and wall art to digital images, and not every family values the same things.
During your personalized consultation, we’ll walk you through the options and provide pricing based on what actually matters to you and what you’d love to create. This gives you the opportunity to understand the experience, ask questions, and explore what feels right for your family.
What should we wear for family photos?
You don’t have to figure it out alone. We’ll help you coordinate colors, textures and individual pieces while keeping your family’s own style at the center of everything.
Some families envision something elegant and dramatic, others want to feel relaxed and casual, and many love a mix of both. There isn’t one “right” way to dress for family portraits. We’ll get to know your style, the personalities in your family and how you want your photographs to feel, then help you choose wardrobe that brings that vision together beautifully.
The goal isn’t to make you look like someone else’s family. It’s to create an elevated version of your own.
When is the best time of year for family photos in Kentucky?
There really isn’t one perfect season. Kentucky gives us something beautiful throughout the entire year. We’ve photographed families in winter wonderlands, against stunning spring sunsets, in the romantic light of summer, and surrounded by those incredible Kentucky fall colors.
The best time really comes down to what you love and how you want your photographs to feel. And if outdoor sessions aren’t your thing, we photograph families in our studio year-round.
Do you travel for family photography sessions?
Absolutely. While Ella Gagiano Studios is based in Kentucky, we regularly travel for family photography sessions. Whether you’re a couple of hours away, have a location that is meaningful to your family, or simply have a particular vision in mind, we’re happy to talk about bringing your session to you.
During your consultation, we can discuss the location you’re considering and any travel involved. Distance doesn’t have to stand in the way of creating the photographs you want.
Can grandparents and extended family be included in family photos?
Absolutely. We want you to have photographs of the people who matter to you, which is why we don’t limit how many family members can be part of your session.
Whether you want to include grandparents, adult children, grandchildren, siblings or the whole extended family, we’ll talk through who you want photographed during your consultation and make sure we create the combinations and relationships that matter most to you.
What is included in a professional family photography session?
Your family photography experience includes much more than the time spent in front of the camera. We guide you through your personalized consultation, planning, wardrobe, posing and the photography itself.
After your session, you’ll return for your cinematic image reveal and design consultation, where you’ll see your finished photographs for the first time and choose your favorites. Your session also includes a credit that can be applied toward the photographs you love, whether you choose digital images, an album, wall art or a combination of artwork for your home.
How far in advance should I book a family photographer in Kentucky?
We recommend reaching out as soon as you know you’d like to be photographed, particularly if you have a specific season, milestone or date in mind. Starting early also gives us plenty of time to thoughtfully plan your session rather than rushing the details.

I was born and raised in South Africa, surrounded by a big family and a culture where gathering together, sharing meals, telling stories, and making memories were simply part of life. Those relationships shaped me, and they still influence the way I see family today.
I’ve since made my home in Kentucky, and as the years have passed, I’ve become even more aware of how quickly families change. Children grow, people move, new generations arrive, and the people we love are never quite the same as they were in the season before.
That’s what draws me to photographing families.
I want to create portraits that are beautiful, but I also want them to feel unmistakably like you. The way your children lean into you. The personalities that make you laugh. The relationships between siblings, parents and grandparents. The little things you recognize instantly because they belong only to your family.
I’ll guide you throughout the experience so we can create something intentional and extraordinary, without losing the people underneath it all.
Because years from now, I don’t just want you to remember what your family looked like.
I want you to remember what it felt like to be together.
